Sheltered and independent living

We have a wide range of sheltered and independent living accommodation across Bolton which consist of one or two bedroom bungalows and apartments and eight under one roof schemes.

This excellent accommodation, specifically designed for the over 60s, regularly becomes available to rent on a secured tenancy basis. The average weekly rent for all sheltered bungalow or apartment is currently approximately £85.00 per week, which includes Core Rent, Management, and Careline support charges.

Each scheme has a dedicated non-resident Management Officer and Careline’s 365 day, 24-hour community alarm service, providing a management and support service tailored to your current and future needs, and giving you and your family complete peace of mind and security.

1. Extra care sheltered accommodation

We have four extra care schemes across Bolton in the Deane, Tonge Moor and Farnworth areas.

These schemes offer older people their own home, together with access to care and support services. As these services are provided by dedicated on-site teams, based within the schemes, extra care is able to help older people who are more dependent, the opportunity to continue living independently within the setting of their own home.

The schemes are designed so that whilst having communal facilities, each tenant continues to have their own front door to their own flat with a lounge, kitchen, bedroom and shower/bathroom. They have an integrated intercom system which is Telecare compatible and the shared communal lounges and gardens host a variety of activities and events for the benefit of the tenants.

We have a Management Officer who is based on-site and will call and visit each resident regularly during the week. Each scheme also has a handyperson to assist all residents with small tasks such as replacing curtain rails, putting pictures on their walls, replacing lightbulbs etc.

2. Core sheltered accommodation

The majority of our core sheltered accommodation can be found in desirable locations, close to shops, transport and essential services. Most have facilities including lifts, communal lounges, and landscaped gardens for all residents to enjoy. With internal and external maintenance, gardening and landscaping taken care of, you are free to enjoy life with your family and new friends. All core sheltered housing customers have the choice of either a weekly, fortnightly or monthly visit from your Management Officer with the frequency of these visit quickly increased or decreased depending on your specific support requirement.

A small additional charge for the heightened levels of support will be made for this type accommodation.

3. Independent living accommodation

The majority of our independent living accommodation can be found in good locations across Bolton, close to shops, transport and essential services. Some will be a part of larger sheltered schemes alongside or close to our core sheltered properties, but many are part of smaller clusters of accommodation dispersed amongst our general let accommodation allowing you to live close to your family and friends.

They may sometimes have communal gardens for you to enjoy, but most have an enclosed garden for your own personal use and cultivation . With all internal and external maintenance taken care of, you are free to enjoy life with your family and make new friends. Tenants who move into our independent living accommodation have the choice of similar support packages to our core sheltered schemes with either a weekly, fortnightly or monthly visit from their Management Officer with a small additional service change made, or those customers who have no current support requirements can opt to receive the Living Independently Tenancy Sustainment Service (LITSS), involving only a regular quarterly contact visit with no additional charge made.

The LITSS option allows you the freedom to take the minimal service provision at the outset and increase your support from our highly experienced team at a later date should your health or support needs change.
