Just as the famed Tour de France cycling race kicked off last week, tenants at our Maxton House extra care site (Farnworth) became some of the first to test a newly-introduced technology that'll allow them to stay active while taking a ride down memory lane.
Motiview bikes- which we'll be rolling out to tenants living at our sheltered and extra care sites- allow riders to pedal both hands and feet while ‘touring’ a local route by video.
Maisie (second picture) pedalled a 5km route round Bolton Town Centre while pointing out landmarks like the library, the market and the town hall. The Town Centre's just one of many routes tenants can choose from.
And John (first picture) told us he'd been using the bikes two to three times a day since they arrived at Maxton House.
He'll pedal for an hour first thing in the morning (while it's quiet in the communal lounge) and then does a further 30 mins in the evening- he'll sometimes hop on in the afternoon, too.
Our Activities Coordinators- Hanna and Lesley- have plans to launch a Motiview-based cycling competition where our sheltered/extra care sites will be able to compete against each other based on the collective distance they've pedalled, too. We'll update you when we know more.
