Stunning projection to show there’s no place like home

Stunning projection to show there’s no place like home

A spectacular projection show this weekend (25-26th October) is set to be the finale of this year’s Diwali celebrations in Bolton.

Communities from across the local area have come together as part of the first Diwali on the Square celebration to create a stunning display of artwork which will be projected on the front of Bolton Town Hall.

The projection, which is sponsored by Bolton at Home and supported by Bolton Vision, will celebrate local communities, Bolton Light Festival and the Hindu festival of light, as well as creating a family friendly event in the town centre on Friday and Saturday evening.

The artwork for the projection has been designed by local school children and community groups, who have all drawn and painted individual pieces of art which depict what the concept of home means to them. The artwork has been produced through The Community Art Box Project, a partnership between Bolton at Home and homelessness charity Emmaus, and animated by video projection artists Illuminos into a projection show which will play on a loop throughout the evening.

On both Friday and Saturday evenings, the projection show will run on a ten-minute loop from 7.00pm until 8.30pm.

On Saturday evening, the video projection show will act as the finale for this year’s Diwali celebrations, which will be held in Victoria Square from 2pm on Saturday. Throughout the day, free family activities including stage and street performances, Bollywood and folk music, as well as face-painting, lantern making and henna will be available to all families, before a lantern procession towards the town hall in time for the projection show.

Gaynor Cox, Housing Arts Officer, said: “We are more than just a housing association - we invest in our local communities and work closely with local partners to help create friendly, inclusive and vibrant neighbourhoods for everybody to live. Supporting this year’s Light Festival helps to connect our communities through a family friendly event for everybody to enjoy, exploring why we love where we live and running it alongside the biggest light festival in the world in Diwali.”

Diwali on the Square is supported by Arts Council England, Bolton at Home, Bolton Council, Bolton Library and Museum Services, Walk The Plank, Bolton Market Place, Bolton FM Radio and many other local organisations and businesses.
