Volunteers dedicate their Christmas to helping others

The true meaning of Christmas is alive and well in Bolton as volunteers prepare to spread festive cheer to people who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.

A group of five volunteers from the Fusion Centre, at Connaught Square in Tonge Moor, will use their Christmas Day to prepare and serve a sit-down meal to around 20 members of the community experiencing social isolation over the festive period.

Local resident Wayne Entwistle has also donated a large portion of meat and veg for the day, while other donations came from local butcher Meat Direct, Asda, and Soreen.

Paula Rowson, our Community Development Officer, said: “Our volunteers recognise that loneliness can be difficult for those living alone at any time of year, especially during the festive period. Their devotion to others’ welfare is inspirational.

“We also thank those who’ve generously donated, allowing the volunteers to serve a complete Christmas dinner and hand out gifts.”
