Sometimes, people find themselves in situations that are hard to imagine – where everything falls apart.
That was the case for a couple in their sixties who, not long ago, were left with nothing - no belongings, no clothes beyond what they were wearing. While their income situation was being sorted, they didn’t have the basics needed to feel comfortable or dignified.
Thanks to strong local partnerships, which started with a call for support from Age UK Bolton, we were able to quickly contribute clothes through our UCAN centre in Bolton Town Centre, home to our Working Wardrobe.
Working Wardrobe typically supports people preparing for job interviews, offering smart, good-quality donated clothing to help them feel confident and make a good impression with employers. However, in this case, the support was more urgent.
This was a one-off, exceptional situation – but it highlights how our UCAN centre teams respond when needed. Rooted in community engagement and support, they’re ready to help in the right way when people are struggling.
If you’re going through a tough time, we want you to know – we’re here. Whether it’s help with housing issues, money worries, employment, wellbeing, or just someone to talk to, our UCAN centres are open to anyone who would appreciate a hand.
If you’ve ever donated to Working Wardrobe – thank you. Your kindness makes a real difference.
Please continue spreading the word about our UCAN centres, especially in Market Place Shopping Centre, where we have extended opening hours. You can find out more on our dedicated page here: www.boltonathome.org.uk/ucan.
