Families in Breighmet came together for a week of community and environmental events.

A planting and growing class for children and their parents was among the many events taking place for Love Beautiful Breightmet Week this week (July 27-31).

Pictured planting her seeds is four-year-old Tianna-Rae Hammond who lives in Breightmet.

Her mum, Toni Hulme, said: “This has encouraged us to think about our environment more. It’s great that the children have done something hands-on to learn about growing food and healthy living.”

Vanessa Hamnett, manager of our Breightmet UCAN Centre on New Lane, added: “Events like this introduce more families to food growing, help them save money and show the range of support that we offer from our centre.”

An outdoor cooking workshop at the New Lane Food Hub, an organised litter pick, IT classes and advice on recycling were among the other activities we organised.

A special thanks to all the residents who helped us clear 24 bags worth of litter from the area.
