Awaab’s Law: Putting your safety first

At Bolton at Home, your safety and wellbeing are our top priority. That’s why we fully support Awaab’s Law - a new law that makes sure health hazards in homes are dealt with quickly and properly.

What is Awaab’s Law?

Awaab’s Law is named after Awaab Ishak, a two-year-old who sadly died in 2020 due to mould in his home. His family raised concerns, but no action was taken. His story led to a national change - and this law is the result.

From 27 October 2025, all housing associations must follow strict new rules to fix health hazards like damp, mould, and emergency repairs within set timeframes.

What this means for you

If you report a safety issue in your home, we’ll legally be required to act quickly. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Emergency hazards made safe within 24 hours.
  • Significant damp and mould hazards investigated within 10 working days.
  • Written findings shared within 3 working days.
  • Urgent safety works started within 5 working days.
  • All necessary works completed as soon as possible (Started no later than 12 weeks).
  • If your home can’t be made safe, we’ll move you to suitable temporary accommodation at no cost to you.
  • We’ll keep you informed and supported throughout

This law strengthens your rights and helps us deliver the high standards you deserve.
