Housing Heroes Award win for Motiv8

Housing Heroes Award win for Motiv8

Motiv8, a Greater Manchester programme to help people overcome barriers to get back on track, has been declared a winner in this year’s prestigious Housing Heroes Awards for the work they do to support people across Greater Manchester.

The awards, which were held in Manchester on 25 June, are jointly organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing. They give organisations the chance to reward the hard work of their teams and celebrate the unsung heroes of the housing world. Motiv8 won the category of Support and Care Team of the year for their collaborative and inclusive approach to the support they provide. Motiv8 has been set up thanks to £9.7m funding from the European Social Fund (2014 - 2020) and the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund, to help people aged 25 plus overcome multiple barriers preventing them from engaging with training, job search and employment opportunities. Over three years Motiv8 aims to support nearly 4,000 people to overcome multiple, complex needs and move them closer to training and work.

Since the programme went live in January 2017, Motiv8 has received more than 2,500 referrals from around Greater Manchester and achieved over 1,200 positive outcomes for their clients.

Kerrie Pryde, Assistant Director of Commercial Services for Jigsaw Group, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this Housing Heroes Awards for the support our teams and partners give to some of the most vulnerable people in society. This can include people who are homeless, long-term unemployed, living with mental or physical disabilities and health conditions, drug and alcohol dependent or other complex needs. It is very much a team effort, with hubs delivering the service locally across Greater Manchester. Our approach is a tailored, personal one that is adapted to suit the needs of our clients and it is very rewarding to see the difference we can make when people are supported to receive the help they need.”

New Charter Homes, part of the newly formed Jigsaw Group, is leading the Motiv8 programme with support from four other Manchester Athena housing providers – Stockport Homes, ForViva, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and Bolton at Home. Manchester Athena is a partnership of 15 social landlords across Greater Manchester, who work together to deliver employment and health programmes across the region.

Motiv8 also work with a wide range of specialist partners, providing their clients with access to education and training, health and wellbeing services, financial programmes and support to help build confidence, self-esteem and to get people back on the right track. These partners include Shelter, Home-Start, Migrants Support, LGBT Foundation, Wai Yin Society, Challenge 4 Change and One Manchester.

To qualify for support you need to be aged 25 or over, live in Greater Manchester and have the right to remain and work in the UK. You must also not be involved with any other training or employment. You can either contact Motiv8 direct or be referred through an agency. The programme encourages referrals from people who are under-represented in the labour-market such as ex-offenders, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups, ethnic minorities and migrant communities as well as people who have, for a variety of reasons, lost their way.
