Greenroyd Avenue named best development in the North West

One of our housing developments has been crowned the best social or affordable new housing development in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards 2015.

Greenroyd Avenue was chosen as the winner from a shortlist of 25 developments across the whole of the North West.

Entries were judged on areas including community involvement, affordability of maintenance, response to site constraints, appearance and planning, layout and landscaping and attention to safety, security and accessibility.

Judges were also looking for technical innovation, sustainability, high performance and evidence of working relationships that produced new or creative solutions.

The development, constructed by builder and developer Seddon on our behalf, comprises 22 houses for affordable rent, including 12 two bed and 10 three bed homes. It was entered for the award by Bolton Building Control.

Judges were particularly impressed by the high standard of the properties and the good working relationships established by Seddon’s site manager, Peter Wilde. The development was completed on time and within budget, and involved the local community by publishing newsletters for residents and providing training and site visits for local students.

Dominic Conway, our Assistant Director for Development and Renewal, said: “It’s a huge achievement to be named winner of the category, especially when you consider that we were up against so many other high quality developments in the region.

“It’s a fantastic recognition of the hard work that went into the development and the community we’ve created there.”

Greenroyd Avenue will now go through to the national LABC Grand Finals, which are held in London in the autumn.
