Drummond St residents go digital

Drummond St residents go digital

Bolton at Home has teamed up with Bolton Lads and Girls Club and pupils from Canon Slade School to run three digital taster sessions for residents local to Drummond Street sheltered housing.

The sessions aim to give people the confidence and knowledge to use computers, tablets, cameras, mobile phones and game consoles.

It is also part of a citizenship project that brings together people from different generations to learn from each other.

Drummond St resident Cecilia Hill, 72, said: “I wouldn’t have known how simple it was to put a photo on Facebook without this help.  Now I can share more with my grandson in Cyprus.”

Mia O’Donnell, 12, is from Canon Slade School.  She said: “It’s good because I know people might struggle with technology but we can help them out.”

Local resident Maureen Wood, 72, added:  “I wanted to learn more about computers but I’m apprehensive about doing anything more than just email.  I think it’s a brilliant idea to get people to learn together and it’ll help us to do more.  It’s especially important if you’re on your own.”

Bolton at Home will build on the series of taster sessions if they continue to prove popular.
