Meet Bolton's EuroApprentices!

Meet Bolton's EuroApprentices!

Say hello to Bolton at Home’s very own EuroApprentices; Michael Hutchings, currently completing an apprenticeship in Tenancy Sustainment and Support, and Katy Henry, a Project Management and Business Development apprentice. The pair will be joining our Digital Marketing apprentice Jamie Moore, who joined the EuroApprentice scheme last year, as ambassadors for Erasmus+.

EU organisation Erasmus+ offers all-expenses-paid work placement and volunteering opportunities known as Mobility Experiences to those looking to broaden their horizons, meet new people and gain new skills. For the past five years, Bolton at Home has worked closely with Erasmus+ to offer local people the chance to complete voluntary charity work for two weeks in either Hungary or Romania.

As EuroApprentices, Katy and Michael are tasked with increasing the visibility of the Erasmus+ programme to audiences within the vocational education and training (VET) sector, which includes students, apprentices and VET providers such as local colleges. Through sharing their own volunteering experiences in Romania during May and July of 2018, the duo hope to get more people engaged in the opportunities through various promotional activities such as presentations and social media messages throughout 2019.

The Mobility Experience programme is recognised across Europe as a fantastic way to boost participants’ CVs and employment prospects. Katy said ‘Volunteering in Romania last year was a huge step outside my comfort zone and helped massively boost my skills and confidence. I felt proud to have made a positive change to disadvantaged peoples’ lives and by becoming a EuroApprentice ambassador I’d like to motivate more people to get involved.’

Michael stated ‘In my previous field of work I never would’ve imagined I’d have the chance to volunteer in Romania for two weeks. It was a really eye-opening experience and I hope to use my role as a EuroApprentice to raise awareness of this amazing opportunity.’

When asked how they plan to promote Erasmus+ and its mobility programme, Michael and Katy said they plan to work together to produce digital content such as blogs, videos and testimonials for sharing on social media. As part of the role, the pair will also get a chance to present their experiences to audiences at colleges, events and conferences across the UK.

Michael and Katy were also delighted to hear that they’d be travelling to Malta this May as part of an international get-together involving EuroApprentices from all over Europe. Whilst abroad, they’ll be skilled-up on the ins-and-outs of their roles with a chance to attend workshops in presentation skills, social media, video production and marketing amidst others before kick-starting promotional activities back here in the UK.

Katy, Michael and Jamie recently attended a national Erasmus+ meet in Leicester where they were given the chance to meet 10 other UK-based EuroApprentices joining the scheme for 2019. Whilst at the event, the Erasmus+ team delivered presentations to EuroApprentices on what to expect going forward and were given some ideas on how they could drum-up interest in upcoming Erasmus+ Mobility programmes.
