We shall never forget

We shall never forget

As we mark Armistice Day and remember those who’ve died in wars by observing the two-minute silence held at 11am today, we’d like to share a commemorative poem with you and also let our tenants who are Armed Forces Veterans know that we’re here if you need us.

Armistice Day is also known as Remembrance Day. It recognises the day that fighting in World War One was brought to an end, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Ibby Ismail is our Deputy Chair. He’s written the following poem to respect the significance of today and pay tribute to those from our families and shared communities who we’ve lost over the years.

We Shall Never Forget

So young and vibrant

The vim and vigour

Radiating from determined eyes

Uniformed and informed

Of journeys from which

They shall never return

A truth that is always hard to accept

A future lost

So that ours are won

We shall never forget

Set in stone for all time

A legacy of ordinary humans

Freedom, built on the blood

Of generations previous and present

Their voices are no longer heard

Their laughter a distant memory

All lamented with much regret

But their achievement lives on

In the goodness of a hopeful future

We shall never forget

Thank you Ibby.

We acknowledge and recognise the service provided by our Armed Forces Veterans in addition to the sacrifices that you and your families have made.

We’re committed to supporting the armed forces community. In 2018, we strengthened our commitment by signing the Armed Forces Covenant with our Greater Manchester Housing Providers partners to ensure you won’t be placed at any disadvantage as a result of your service.

Our aim is to bring together the armed forces community and civilian community to share understanding and raise awareness of issues faced by Armed Forces Veterans and families of those serving.

Take care.
