Launch of State of the Sector

Help showcase the work of Bolton’s voluntary and community sector through a new State of the Sector Survey.

Bolton CVS, in their State of the Sector Survey in 2017, found that there were 1,561 voluntary and community organisations in Bolton, with an estimated income of £137 million. The sector employed the equivalent of 3,000 full time staff and 46,900 volunteers giving 113,500 hours per week, with an estimated value of £102.7 million per year. The survey results increased the understanding of the voluntary sector and the social and economic contribution it makes to Bolton.

The work the voluntary and community sector does directly affects the lives of people in Bolton, so it is really important that CVS knows what is happening.

CVS is working on the survey with Salford University and partner organisations across Greater Manchester to provide an insight into the voluntary and community sector in Bolton and across Greater Manchester. The survey will provide valuable evidence into the needs of our sector as well as inform strategy, influence policy and strengthen and engage people in communities.

Darren Knight, Chief Executive at Bolton CVS says: “The State of the Sector survey findings help us to better understand the size, reach and diversity of community activity in Bolton. It also provides an opportunity to promote the massive contribution that volunteers and community groups and organisations make across the borough.

“The findings from the survey help to inform local funding programmes as well as identify what support organisations like Bolton CVS, Bolton Council, Bolton at Home, local NHS partners and other key organisations need to put in place to enable voluntary, community and social enterprise sector groups and organisations in Bolton to thrive.

“It’s so important that community groups and organisations of all shapes, sizes and types complete the survey so that we can paint the most accurate picture of what’s going on in Bolton.”

Large national organisations, small community groups, faith based organisations and tenant’s organisations are all being asked to take part.

We appreciate you giving time to complete the survey. This research will only be useful if enough groups take part to make the response rate significant. This means it’s important that as many groups as possible answer. Your answers will be treated in the strictest confidence and will not published in a way that identifies your organisation. You can take part in the survey by completing a simple online survey via the following link: https://bit.ly/3gpxTGD.

Any organisation with a turnover of less than £100k per year completing the survey will be entered into a FREE prize draw to win £1,000 for their organisation. The link also contains information covering consent and data protection.
