Social housing providers up and down the country are calling for a once-in-a-generation national investment to put quality affordable housing at the heart of plans for social and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’re supporting the Homes At The Heart campaign together with Arcon Housing Association (www.arcon.org.uk) and other members of the Greater Manchester Housing Providers partnership (gmhousing.co.uk).

It's led by the National Housing Federation (www.housing.org.uk). And, during August and September, we’ll all be doing our bit to show the Government how investment in social housing and the work that housing providers do boosts the economy, creates jobs and improves people’s lives.

‘Stronger Economy’ is this week’s theme to show the links between our activities and economic growth.

Here are some of the ways not for profit social housing providers like us add to the local economy. In our case:

  • In the last financial year, our support programmes helped 263 unemployed people in Bolton into work and another 230 into training.
  • We spent close to £60 million with suppliers and the local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector between April 2019 and March 2020.
  • We’re on with our ambition to provide 1,400 new homes by 2024 with Arcon, creating vital affordable housing and construction jobs. Building homes for people, not profit.

You can get involved in the campaign and conversation on Twitter and Facebook. Use and look out for the #HomesAtTheHeart hash-tag.
