Bolton at Home names new chair and deputy chair

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new chair and deputy chair to our board.

Ian Munro has been elected as the new chair, while Ibrahim Ismail has been appointed deputy chair.

Both Ian and Ibby bring years of experience in housing, community and social issues to their respective roles.

As a former director of housing in Tameside, Greater Manchester, Ian supervised one of the country’s first housing renewal areas. He also led the transfer of its 16,000 council homes to New Charter Group in 2000 which was one of the first, and largest, metropolitan housing stock transfers.

He said: “I regard Bolton at Home as being a hugely impactful organisation for the people of Bolton and Greater Manchester. I want to ensure that the board continues to challenge and support our work in communities and with individuals, and helps to provide safe affordable homes for current and future tenants.”

Ibby is development manager of Bolton Solidarity Community Association (BSCA) and chair of Bolton CVS and Homestart.

He said: “I’ve built up a lot of experience working in the community and understand the social issues people are dealing with in Bolton. Through the other board positions I’ve held, I also know how good governance helps an organisation to make a difference to people’s lives.

“As a social tenant myself, I hope to champion customer involvement, empowerment and accountability as part of the role. It’s important to me that the role of vice chair is one that is outward-looking and active, both locally and regionally with tenants and with other housing associations.”

Bolton at Home’s board is a group of appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of the organisation.

While day-to-day running of Bolton at Home is delegated to its management team, the board helps set its strategic direction and is accountable to tenants and other stakeholders for its overall performance. The board also approves the organisation’s business plan, annual report and financial statements.

Ian replaces Tracy Woods as chair after Tracy retired from the board to pursue new challenges following six years in the position and nine years on the board overall. Tracy was named most effective board member at the 2017 Women in Housing Awards.

Ibby takes over the deputy chair position from Kevin McKeon. Kevin has stepped down from the role but will continue his eight years of service as a board member.

We would like to thank Tracy and Kevin for their dedication and valuable contributions made in their time as chair and deputy chair.
