  • Walk or cycle more - for those short journeys use your own power, it only takes 10 minutes to walk half a mile.
  • Keep your car engine maintained - your oil level just above minimum (but check more often) and your tyre pressure set for maximum load will save fuel and money.
  • Switching your headlights off when not needed can also save energy.
  • Walk or cycle more - for those short journeys use your own power, it only takes 10 minutes to walk half a mile.
  • Take unneeded weight out of your car (roof rack, pram, tool box) - you’ll save on fuel.
  • Slow down - driving at 50mph uses 25% less fuel than 70mph.
  • Try public transport - going into the centre of a town or city? Why not try the bus / train or use the park and ride.
  • Share a journey - with four occupants a car has a smaller footprint per person than a bus.
  • Think food miles - look at how far your food has come and when it is normally in season in the UK. Most shops provide this information.
