The town’s first Pride of Bolton Awards have recognised some outstanding local people for their dedication and achievements.
At a glittering ceremony held at the Holiday Inn in Bolton, boxing star Amir Khan was joined by Dave Bagley of homelessness charity Urban Outreach, Watson Steel and Councillor John Walsh as the recipients of special awards:
Sports personality of the year – Amir Khan
Community award – Dave Bagley
Services to business – Watson’s Steel
Lifetime achievement award – Cllr John Walsh
Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Noel Spencer MBE commended the winners and spoke of how the town is home to so many inspiring and, often, unsung individuals.
Proud local spirit was reflected behind the scenes too, as a host of sponsors and supporters teamed up with event organisers APNA including Bolton at Home, Fujitsu, Cable World, The Bolton News and Bolton Council.
The Pride of Bolton Awards are now set to become an annual event having replaced the successful Diversity Awards, held each of the last seven years.
