Residents can help with estate clean-up

A three-day event to tackle environmental issues on the Eldon Street estate in Tonge Moor is being staged this week.

Residents are being invited to get involved with the Tonge Moor Big Clean Up, which has been organised by Bolton at Home in partnership with Big Local and Tonge with the Haulgh councillors, from Wednesday 17 September.

Between 12pm and 3pm across all three days, residents can attend ‘stitch and save’ workshops at the Fusion centre, where crafters will demonstrate how to recycle and revamp old clothes.

They will also offer ideas on how to save money and preserve the environment.

On Thursday from 1pm, local artist Sandra B from the Making Changes group will demonstrate how to make a sculpture from ordinary household items that would usually be thrown away.

Representatives from Bolton Council will also be at the centre on Friday between 10am and 2.30pm to provide information about recycling.

Marie Grady, Estate Enforcement Manager for Bolton at Home said: “These events offer a great opportunity for people to get together and learn more about ways to improve the environment. In the long run, we hope these activities will provide more information on how to recycle and help make the community safer, greener, and more attractive.”

Between 8am until 1.30pm on 17 Wednesday, skips will be available in six locations for local tenants to dispose of any unwanted household goods or waste including large items of furniture and white goods.
