Queen Anne score victory in Sunday League cup final

Queen Anne FC have won the Bolton at Home Sunday League Open Cup final in a nail-biting clash against Farnworth United at Bolton’s Macron Stadium.

The fiercely contested match saw Farnworth score the first goal within seconds of kick-off, watched by over 500 spectators.

Queen Anne equalised just before half time then scored the winning goal to finish 2-1 up.

As part of Bolton at Home’s sponsorship of the Sunday League, the organisation’s chair Tracy Woods and life president Noel Spencer presented the trophy to Queen Anne FC.

Man of the match was Gareth Cuniff who scored Queen Anne’s first goal, while the other goal scorers were Anthony Harrison (Farnworth) and Craig Leader (Queen Anne).

Bolton FM broadcasted live from the game and spectators were treated to performances from Bolton Caledonian Bagpipe Band.

Carl Cover, League Secretary, said: “Support on the day was fantastic and both teams were very well represented. Children and over 60s received free entry so there were a variety of different ages in attendance, it was a real family occasion.

“Both teams played a brilliant game which was full of excitement until the end, and there was a great carnival atmosphere to be proud of.”

Tracy Woods, Chair of Bolton at Home said: “Our partnership with the Sunday League aims to increase participation in local sport, and events like this are proof of the positive influence local football can have on communities. It was a fantastic game to watch and congratulations to both the players and supporters for making it such a great occasion.”
