It’s ‘bin’ a rubbish week

It’s ‘bin’ a rubbish week

A community litter pick has swept-up a week of environmental action in Breightmet.

Local residents took to our UCAN centre on New Lane to learn how to report littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping online.

We arranged three community skips, which proved a popular way for people to dispose of bulky and unwanted items safely.

And five residents helped us to bag 31 sacks of litter and rubbish from local pavements, grassed areas and ginnels.

Janet said: “Seeing rubbish on the ground frustrates me, so this was my contribution to help clean it-up.

“Rather than sit-in the house, I wanted to take part to meet new people, learn more about where we live, burn some calories and feel good about doing something for our neighbourhood.”

Joanne added: “If other people see us doing this, it’ll hopefully encourage more to get involved in the future.”

Thanks to all involved.
