Hard-working teens meet football ace

Two teenagers who have turned their lives around have met one of their footballing heroes in recognition of their hard work.

Bolton fans Tom Coen, 16, and 14-year-old Harry Ollerton have been presented with tickets to Wanderers’ upcoming clash against Blackpool by star midfielder Liam Feeney.

We wanted to reward the youngsters who, after struggling with mainstream education, have performed exceptionally well at Bolton’s Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and are focused on their futures.

Tom said: “I’m really focused on doing well in my maths and English GCSEs, which would set me up,” while Harry added: “Coming to the PRU has made me improve both as a pupil and a person.”

The boys had the opportunity to speak with Feeney and Bolton Wanderers' Community Ambassador Tony Kelly, who were also given a tour of the PRU facility at Smithills by Acting Behaviour Manager, Byron Billington.

Liam said: “It’s fantastic to meet people who dedicate themselves to helping youngsters and hear how the young people respond to that help. My eyes have been opened to the great work that goes on in our local communities.”

The club has donated 1,000 tickets for the match on 4 April to our customers who are active in their communities. BWFC and the Community Trust have made the game their annual community match fixture, recognising their partnership with us, and players will wear a special Bolton at Home shirt.

The community match is the latest initiative from our partnership, which has encouraged hundreds of young people to get involved in sport, education and volunteering opportunities.
