Fire safety in our blocks

We want to express our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the tragic incident at Grenfell Tower in London. Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and families who have seen their homes destroyed.

We can reassure you all that incidents of this scale involving people’s homes are very rare and we also want to let you know what we're doing to ensure our customers remain safe in their homes and to advise of the support available if you have any particular concerns.

Bolton at Home owns and manages five blocks that are six floors and above. None of them have over cladding systems. As part of an external refurbishment programme planned for three high rise blocks at Thornbank in Deane, we had considered cladding to help increase insulation levels. However in a direct response to the concerns now being raised about the safety of such systems we'll be looking at alternative solutions and we'll consult with customers.

In addition whilst we already have robust fire safety systems in place for our properties, in light of this incident, and similar to many other housing providers, we're carrying out a full review of these arrangements. We'll continue to operate comprehensive waste management arrangements in blocks and we're asking customers to familiarise themselves with the fire safety guidance for where they live and report anything left in a communal areas or outside a block, and not in the designated refuse areas.

We'll continue to work closely with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), who have encouraged anyone with concerns following the tragic events in London to phone 0800 555815. The service will also arrange ‘Safe and Well’ visits for anyone who feels concerned or vulnerable.

If you live in one of our five blocks, across Thornbank, Hargreaves House and Rainford House, you'll receive more information from us very soon. In the meantime, please don't hestitate to phone us on 01204 328000 if you would like more support.
