Community gets behind BBQ celebration

A BBQ being held at The Fusion Centre in Tonge Moor has been given a boost after receiving an unexpected donation from members of the community.

Residents in the area raised £118 in contributions towards the summer celebration after a donation box was placed in the Co-Op on Tonge Moor Road, the event’s sponsor.

The Fusion Centre, on Connaught Square, is run by volunteers and donations help sustain the different activities, events and facilities there.

Its summer BBQ is taking place this Saturday (August 22) between 11am and 2pm. There will be face painting, bric-a-brac stalls and jewellery on sale, while animal charity Pets Rehome is running a tombola and prizes can be won in the Fusion Raffle.

Carol Fearnley, Fusion Centre Treasurer and Chair of Bolton at Home's Customer Committee, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors old and new on Saturday. It’ll be a great opportunity for people to see what goes on at the centre and we’ll be providing information on the day about the different groups and activities on offer. We hope the event will grow the Fusion community as well as being a relaxed day where people can socialise and have fun with all the family – in the sunshine if we’re lucky!

“It’s lovely to see members of the community giving back and it just shows what a valued resource the Fusion Centre is.”
