Community clean-ups sweep Bolton

Community clean-ups sweep Bolton

Residents across Bolton have taken part in one of six community clean-ups organised by Bolton at Home as part of national Give and Gain Day.

On Friday, residents in Oldhams, Deane, Hall i’ th’ wood, Breightmet, Tonge Moor were involved in littler picks, while a sixth took place in the area between Asda on Blackburn Road down to Valley House, via Astley Brook.

Volunteers from Asda, Seddons, Barclays, Warburtons, Sharples, and students from Thornleigh School also took part.

Other environmental activities on the day included planting opportunities, advice about recycling and a windowsill food growing workshop, while hot food and refreshments were available throughout the day.

Danielle Porter, UCAN Centre Project Officer, said: “When we heard about Give and Gain Day we wanted to do something collaboratively to have a greater impact across our neighbourhoods. The day was a great way to support the community and champion the benefits of volunteering. It was fantastic to see so many people getting involved to make their communities cleaner, safer and brighter.”

National Give and Gain Day takes place annually as a celebration of the power of volunteering and the role it can play in helping communities prosper.
