Housing partner organisations in Bolton
are among the first to put Respect at the top of their agenda.
Bolton at Home, Bolton Council, and Bolton Community Homes were joined on
Thursday by Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Local Government and
Communities to launch the Respect Standard for Housing Management.
This is a six point action plan aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour,
building stronger communities and giving tenants a greater say over their
own lives.
In a joint statement, Chair of Bolton at Home Councillor Noel Spencer and
Bolton Council deputy leader Councillor Linda Thomas said: “We are delighted
that Bolton has been chosen to launch this new campaign with the Minister
because it reflects and underlines the good work the Council is already
doing towards achieving the proposed standards in housing management.
“Bolton Council and Bolton at Home, are,
in fact, already undertaking many of the measures recommended. The Council
and Bolton at Home were among those involved in the Government consultation
on the introduction of the Respect Standards to Housing Management and we
are happy to be playing a key role in the national roll out of the
initiative. It also places Bolton in a strong position to help continue to
shape the agenda into the future.
“We fully support its aims and will continue to tackle issues such as
anti-social behaviour under the aegis of the Respect agenda and we will be
sending out a clear message that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour
and disrespect for people.”
