Reclaiming the woods: local children helping improve local area

Reclaiming the woods

08-JUN-06

In an attempt to make their area safer and to attract more wildlife, local residents took part in a clean up of a wooded area in Horwich on Saturday 3rd June. Adults and children of all ages from Brazley Avenue and Poplar Avenue worked together as a team collecting litter and generally cleaning up the area at Brazley Culvert.

Free refreshments and litter picking equipment were provided by Action Earth, an organisation which provides grants to assist groups in carrying out environmental projects. They also provided certificates to all residents who participated.

The day was organised by Bolton at Home and Groundwork following consultation with local residents identifying the need for environmental improvements to make the area safer, attract more wildlife and to address problems of fly-tipping.

Tree sculpturing work was also done as part of the same project to enhance the woodland area and make it more interesting for local people to enjoy.
