The countdown is on to Hall i’th’ Wood’s new community radio station, 87.9
Hall i’th’ Wood FM, as the station was officially opened on Tuesday 27
November by the Mayor of Bolton.
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Barbara Ronson, was joined by Noel Spencer, Chair
of Bolton at Home, and local residents involved in the radio project, for a
look behind the scenes of the station, based on Pixmore Avenue in Hall i’th’
Wood.
Time was spent meeting several local volunteers who have been preparing for
roles as radio presenters and producers since October.
Hall i’th’ Wood FM will take to the airwaves for 24-hours a day, from 5 to 8
December. As well as the four-day radio broadcast, the event will include a
community day at St Columba’s RC School, on 8 December, which is open to the
public.
Noel Spencer said: “We wish everyone involved the very best for a successful
and enjoyable broadcast.”
Local resident George Hewlett, who will present two radio shows during the
week, added: “It’s exciting to do something new like this. I’m looking
forward to speaking about local issues on the broadcast.”
Hall i’th’ Wood FM is a joint project, managed by Bolton at Home and funded
by Bolton Council. There has also been additional support from local
businesses, including a £1,000 contribution from Brennan Construction, and
from local young people involved in the Hall i’th’ Wood Action Group’s Dream
Scheme, who have helped to decorate the studio building.
Setting up a community radio station in Hall i’th’ Wood follows on from the
success of Washacre FM, broadcast from the John Holt Centre in Westhoughton,
in July.
