Community radio has hit the airwaves in Johnson Fold this week, treating
residents to local news, discussion and music.
Volunteers have taken on roles as radio presenters and producers for 87.7
Johnson Fold FM, a four-day broadcast running from Wednesday morning through
to Saturday afternoon.
Based at the Hope Centre, on Tattersall Avenue, the community radio station
offers residents the opportunity to learn new skills and develop confidence
in their radio roles.
Among the local residents taking part are Toni Hacking, 21, and Debbie
Johnson, 28, who have teamed up to host three shows during the broadcast.
Speaking about their radio experience, Toni said: "Getting involved and
training to be a radio presenter has really developed my confidence. It's a
real achievement, which I can put on my CV." Debbie added: "It really is a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it's a lot of fun."
Supported by Bolton at Home, Bolton Council and DBBC Radio; Johnson Fold FM
is the latest community radio initiative to bring local residents closer
together.
Washacre FM was held in Westhoughton last summer and Hall i'th' Wood FM took
place in December.
Johnson Fold FM will be back in June, to accompany a family fun day at
Johnson Fold County Primary School.
