Prison for abusive tenant

20-NOV-07

A 39 year old man from Farnworth has been sentenced to six months in prison after racially abusing a Bolton at Home employee.

Graham Hilton, from Campbell Court, was arrested by the police and charged with a Racially Aggravated Public Order offence, after drunken and aggressive behaviour towards housing staff at Bolton at Home’s Farnworth East Neighbourhood Office.

Mr Hilton was convicted of this offence at Bolton Magistrates Court and sentenced to four months in prison. As Mr Hilton was in breach of a suspended prison sentence, for racially abusing a doctor at the Royal Bolton Hospital last year, he received a further two months.

Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “Bolton at Home’s staff are here to provide a service to all our customers and have the right to work in a safe and supportive environment. We take a tough stance on all aspects of racial harassment, in support of our staff, and work hard to promote all members of the community living and working together. Bolton at Home, together with Bolton Council, will seek to prosecute for the maximum penalty, anyone who behaves in a violent or abusive way towards our staff.”
