Art celebrations: Artist Oliver Wotherspoon, Willows estate resident Deborah
May and Hulton Lane resident Eileen Ramsbotham
30-JUN-06
Residents in Higher Deane have been
showing off their artistic skills, with help from a local artist and support
from Bolton at Home.
Oliver Wotherspoon has been working with residents of different ages from
the Willows estate, the Wellfield young movers project, and Hulton Lane
sheltered accommodation over the last ten weeks, to help them create their
own silk paintings. This was made possible through funding from Bolton at
Home’s Higher Deane Neighbourhood Panel.
The collection of artwork was unveiled and celebrated at a party for
residents at the Hulton Lane community centre on Wednesday 28 June. An
intergenerational event, it provided the opportunity for local residents of
different ages to discuss inspirations behind their artwork and share their
experiences.
Eileen Ramsbotham, resident at Hulton Lane, said: “These sessions have been
enjoyable, relaxing, and more importantly, they have got residents together.
We are really proud of the great results, which have surprised us!”
Silk paintings produced by the residents at Hulton Lane will now be used to
decorate their community centre.
Following the success of these sessions, Bolton at Home’s Higher Deane
Neighbourhood Panel has secured funding for Mr Wotherspoon to continue to
work on further art based initiatives with the local community as artist in
residence.
