Local young people are being given craft training opportunities in the construction industry to improve Council housing and the general environment throughout the borough.

Bolton at Home, together with its five construction partners, have recruited 23 new craft apprentices, who have started their training this month.

Twelve of the apprentices, who will also receive building skills training at Bolton Community College, are taking up positions as heating and ventilation engineers and electricians within Bolton at Home. Each of these apprentices will receive on-going support from qualified and experienced trades people and the Bolton at Home Apprentice Co-ordinator will help them with their learning and development.

A further 11 building trade apprentices will start work with Bolton at Home’s constructor partners, delivering planned programme schemes within the borough to improve the condition of Council owned homes.

This apprenticeship recruitment is part of the Achieving Construction Excellence (ACE) initiative running throughout the Bolton area. This is a partnership between Bolton at Home, its construction contractors, Bolton Council’s Education and Culture Department and Bolton Community College.

Cllr Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “Young people are our future and we are delighted this partnership will offer opportunities to develop construction skills with local residents which will contribute to housing and environmental improvements in Bolton.”
