Grand opening: The Mayor of Bolton,
Cllr Frank White and local resident, Dorothy McCormick add a bird bath feature
at the opening of the Wealdstone Grove environmental improvements
01-NOV-05
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Frank White and Mayoress Mrs Eileen White joined local residents in Tonge Moor to celebrate the opening of visual and environmental improvements made to the Wealdstone Grove area, off Eldon Street.
A new flagged area featuring mosaics, replanted flower beds and secure fencing are among the improvements, after the Eldon Street Resident Association identified a need to improve the physical appearance and prevent anti social behaviour.
Bolton at Home’s Housing Percent for Art team, working with communities to help improve neighbourhoods through creative art projects, funded an artist to consult and work with local residents and schools on the design.
Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “We appreciate the efforts of the local community, who have done a fantastic job with physical improvements made to the area.”
Barbara McFadden, Chair of Eldon Street Resident Association, added: “These improvements are what the residents really wanted. They have been involved every step of the way, and are very happy with the results.”
Funding of £74,000 was provided for the
improvements through the Tonge Moor Neighbourhood Panel, Bolton at Homes’
Percent for Art Team and the Bolton Crime and Disorder Partnership, with
landscaping and plants provided by Bolton WISE.
