30-JUN-06
Residents of Campbell House in Farnworth
recently celebrated the opening of their new communal garden with a party.
The new garden comprises flower beds, mosaics, a water feature and a seating
area where residents can enjoy spending time together with their families
and friends.
Specially designed for elderly residents who have individual needs, the
garden includes a number of safety and accessibility features such as wide
and long hand rails and secure benches set at a safe height.
It has been funded and developed over the last two years in partnership
between Bolton at Home’s Housing Percent for Art Team and Farnworth East
Neighbourhood Panel, Groundworks, Bolton WISE and the Farnworth Youth
Inclusion Team. The garden came about through arts based consultation with
residents and the young people who were involved in developing the gardens
were presented with nationally accredited certificates for their efforts.
Councillor James Lord officially opened the garden with Dora Gilbody who is
Campbell House’s oldest resident.
Cllr Lord paid tribute to the partnership work involved, with a special
mention for the contribution of the Bolton Council’s Youth Inclusion Team ,
saying: “The youngsters have worked hard to make a garden which is both
attractive and usable for the residents. These efforts are really
appreciated and it is great to see them get so much out of it for the
future.”
Mrs Gilbody, 95, added: “A lot of hard work has gone into producing a
beautiful garden for us which we can all enjoy.”
