Elephant-astic! Exhibited arts from the Farnworth Arts Festival

Farnworth Arts Festival

19-AUG-05

The first Farnworth Arts Festival ended in celebratory style, with an exhibition of locally produced artwork displayed at Farnworth Library.

A varied programme of music, dance, drama and visual arts took place across Farnworth over June and July, led by Harper Green School as part of its development as a Specialist Arts College.

The elephant on Bolton’s town crest provided the inspiration for visual arts, and similar to Manchester’s Cow Parade, local communities were invited to create their own elephant art works to be included in a public exhibition.

Bolton at Home’s Housing Percent for Art team, working with communities to help improve neighbourhoods through creative art projects, funded a team of artists to work with local schools to create elephants in mosaic, clay and fabric. There was also an open public workshop held in the centre of Farnworth.

Cllr Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “It is great to see community involvement in art based projects. The efforts of local people and school children in Farnworth have made this a successful arts festival, which has been the first of its kind in the borough.”
