Extra money to support independent living

12-Aug-05

From September, Bolton at Home will make an extra £300,000 available to help more people, who need assistance, to live independently in their own homes.

As part of delivering housing renewal and regenerating areas and communities on behalf of Bolton Council, Bolton at Home’s Disabled Facilities, Grants and Adaptations Service offers advice, help and guidance in the provision of home adaptations for people with disabilities and other needs.

Over the last year, a total of 386 adaptations have been completed to help people live independently in their homes, including; shower installations, stair rails, stair lifts, access ramps and major structural changes.

With this additional funding, Bolton at Home is on target to spend a total of £2 million on providing adaptations across both public and private sector homes in the financial year from April 2005 to March 2006.

Cllr Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “We are delighted this extra funding will make an important contribution in helping more people across the borough to maintain their independence. We hope to build upon the success of last year, where extra funding was provided to ensure more adaptations could be carried out and reduce waiting times.”
