A determined Julian after his charity walk achievement

Determined Julian strides out for local charity

12-JUN-07

A local man has raised £300 for charity in a sponsored walk despite suffering from Parkinson’s Disease.

Julian Race, a resident of Bolton at Home’s Windsor Road sheltered accommodation in Bromley Cross, took up the charity walk challenge when his local community group were looking to raise funds for the Bolton branch of the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

The four mile walk, along footpaths and over uneven ground in Jumbles Country Park, was especially tough for Julian as his condition makes it extremely difficult to walk even short distances.

Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for someone facing the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and I admire Mr Race’s courage and determination in completing his charity walk”.

Other residents at Windsor Road held a coffee morning and raised a further £260 for the charity. A cheque for the total amount is to be presented to the Parkinson’s Disease Society on 10 July.
