Kitchen
14-JUN-07
The recently renovated St Andrew’s
Church on the Johnson Fold estate opened its doors to local residents,
voluntary groups and service providers for a special community day on
Thursday.
The event at the newly named ‘Hope Centre’ on Tattersall Road, gave
residents the opportunity to find out more about the local services
available in their community across health, housing, finance, the
environment, sport, community projects, career development, volunteering and
youth inclusion.
Jointly organised by St Andrew’s Church, Bolton at Home and Bolton Community
Network, the event was the first of its kind in the area and showed the
value of the Hope Centre as a community resource after its recently
completed £440,000 refurbishment.
Graham Cook, Community Worker for the Johnson Fold estate, said: “It is so
important for the community to understand what is going on in the area and
this is the first time local agencies have been brought together under one
roof.”
Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, added: “We are delighted to support
activities which encourage more local resident involvement and provide
useful information points.”
Bolton Council, Bolton Primary Care Trust, Quids In Credit Union, Smithills
School and the Johnson Fold Youth and Community Support Group were among the
services and voluntary groups who joined the event organisers on the day.
Local resident Gail Kitchen, visiting the centre with her daughter and
grandson, said: “This is a really useful day for residents. You just don’t
realise how much is going on in an area into you see all those involved
together.”
