A unique panel including designs by
local children has been installed in Shepley Avenue, Higher Deane, in the
final stages of regeneration work carried out by Bolton at Home.
The children worked with local artist, Oliver Wotherspoon, to paint a
picture of how they wanted their avenue to look. Residents decided they
wanted the children’s work to be included in the avenue’s new look and so
the original painting on silk was transferred to an enamel backing and
glazed. A metal cutout of the street design by the architects was
incorporated with the colourful design to produce the final artwork.
The panel now takes pride of place on the avenue and images from the panel
have also been included in the street sign.
The regeneration work at Shepley Avenue includes new driveways, front
boundary walls and front gardens for all properties. In addition, one end of
the avenue has been closed off.
Noel Spencer, chair of Bolton at Home, said: “its great to involve local
children in the regeneration of Shepley Avenue by including their work in
it’s new look. This is the first of the Great Estates regeneration projects
to be completed and has transformed the environment and character of the
avenue”.
A further three Great Estates projects have been started recently as part of
Bolton at Home’s continuing regeneration of selected areas in the region.
