Awards for apprentices

Winners of Bolton at Home’s 2007 Apprentice Awards celebrated their success at a ceremony held at Mere Hall, in Bolton, on Thursday 8 November.

The annual event recognised 24 apprentices who have successfully completed their apprenticeships, as well as the most outstanding performers from each year.

Noel Spencer, Chair of Bolton at Home, and the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Barbara Ronson, presented the awards and prizes to apprentices who have demonstrated commendable customer care, quality of work and willingness to learn.

Noel Spencer, said: “The awards celebrate the work, effort and determination of the apprentices in reaching their goals. We thank, and pay tribute to, both the apprentices and those who have supported them.”

Lee Mulroney, apprentice Gas Engineer, aged 20, from Little Lever, was named overall apprentice of the year. He said: “I am very proud to win this award and have really enjoyed the occasion, which shows great appreciation of our work.”

Steve Martindale, General Manager of Honda UK Motorcycles, was also at the event to congratulate Bolton at Home’s apprentices and entertain the audience as guest speaker.

Bolton at Home has had 69 apprentices in training over the last year, their jobs including; heating engineers, plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, joiners and plasterers. They have also attended training at Bolton College as part of the Assuring Constructional Excellence Programme.

Steve Martindale was accompanied at the Apprentice Awards by John McGuiness, winner of 13 2007 TT races and current lap record holder, and Steve Brogan, also a British Super Stock series rider. All three donated their time to attend on behalf of ‘When you wish upon a star’, a charity which aims to make dreams come true for terminally ill children.

On behalf of Steve and the Honda riders, Bolton at Home will be granting a wish for one young person.
