A decoration allowance is a payment given to a tenant for one of the following reasons:
The Council decides how much the payment will be by calculating it on a room to room basis.
This decoration allowance is issued in the form of vouchers by the local housing office at tenancy sign-up, along with a list of materials which can be purchased and a list of participating suppliers. Tenants can exchange the vouchers for decorating materials at any of the stores listed. The voucher must be used within 6 months of issue. (Please see the link below for details of housing offices)
A List of participating suppliers and a Materials list is included in the sign-up pack for new tenants.
A liaison officer visits each property prior to the commencement of major repairs or programmed work. During this visit, he/she will explain about the decoration allowance, details of which will vary depending on the type of work to be undertaken.
Further assistance in undertaking decorating may also be available for elderly or vulnerable customers.
