The Home Ownership section is part of the Housing Advice Service and deals
with a variety of Home Ownership issues.
- Council tenants wishing to purchase their home through the Right to Buy
Scheme. To apply you must have spent at least two years with a local
authority or registered social landlord (other tenancies may qualify, e.g. with
the
armed forces, Police authorities) or five years in the case of new public
sector tenants who took up their tenancies on or after 18th January 2005. Contact the Home Ownership Team for
further advice. Application / information pack available.
- General advice for first time buyers on all aspects of home ownership.
- Shared Ownership Schemes including the Do-It-Yourself Shared Ownership (DIYSO)
schemes - designed to help those who cannot buy a home of their own
outright.
- Low Cost Home Ownership Schemes targeted at first time buyers and those
in housing need.
- General advice and liaison with other agencies.
- Advice and assistance to home owners experiencing mortgage difficulties.
