Unlike houses and flats, the Council do not have to apply to the courts for a Possession Order.
A reminder is sent when an account falls into arrears, requiring the arrears to be paid in full. If you receive a letter, please contact your local neighbourhood office (using the link below) .
If the arrears are not settled in full, or an agreement made to pay them, then a Notice to Quit will be served. If the arrears are not cleared in full within 14 days from the service of the Notice to Quit, than the garage will be repossessed.
Most arrears cases can be dealt with relatively simply provided you get in contact early enough. Ignoring the situation can only make matters worse.
Information about how to pay your garage rent, can be found in Useful Links at the bottom of this page.
Due to the low level of rent compared with a house or flat, some may regard garage rent as a low priority. However we have a duty to recover all rent owed to the Council to fund the services that we provide.
If you want further information about how to make an application to rent a garage,
please go to Useful Links.
