Once registered, a letter of acknowledgement and reference number will be sent to you.
When a garage is available, the relevant housing officer will offer the garage to the applicant that has been on the waiting list the longest.
An appointment will be made to sign up the garage to the new tenant. At this interview, the keys will be handed over, a new rent card issued, one week’s payment will be required, garage terms and conditions of tenancy will be explained and the new tenant will be asked to sign the agreement and keep one copy.
At present, garage rents are vat free to council tenants. This financial year it is £4.00 per week, while private tenants would have to pay £4.70.
This is required to be paid weekly, and can be paid at housing offices, the Town hall, by post or by standing order. Payments other than weekly need to be arranged with a housing officer.
If you want to terminate your garage tenancy you will need to give one weeks notice and fill in a tenancy termination form. This form is available from any estate office or by clicking on this link Tenancy Termination Form A (opens in a new window).
All keys must be returned to the estate office before 10.00am on the Monday morning of the termination date. It is important that the garage must not have any items left behind as you may incur a charge for the cost of removal.
