Domestic violence includes all kinds of physical, sexual, emotional and
financial abuse, within all types of relationships. The most harmful abuse
is
carried out by men against women partners, but abuse can also be carried out
by women against men, within same sex relationships and by family members.
People experience domestic violence regardless of their social group, class,
age, race, disability, sexuality or lifestyle. Abuse can begin at any time -
during a current relationship or at any time after a relationship has
ceased.
Domestic Violence is now a breach of Bolton at Home's tenancy agreement. Part 6 – Community Responsibilities, Section 4 – Domestic Violence states:
“You must not inflict Domestic Violence on your partner, ex-partner or another member of your family or household. Domestic Violence can involve physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse”.
Bolton at Home will take action under the tenancy agreement where
Domestic Violence is perpetrated by a tenant of one of our properties where
appropriate. We are committed to supporting victims of Domestic Violence in
a non-judgemental and sensitive manner. Information received about the case
will be kept confidential and priority should be given to the wishes and
safety of the victim at all times. For more details of our commitment to
tackling Domestic Violence see our
Domestic Violence policy (PDF document, opens in a new window).
Bolton at Home has two Domestic Violence Housing Officers (DVHOs) who are based
in the Antisocial Behaviour Team. Bolton at Home is responsible for dealing
with domestic violence on council estates (including Right to Buys) and
Housing Association estates (within
Homes for Bolton
- external site, opens in a new window). Either the victim or the
perpetrator must be a tenant or live in a Right to Buy property.
If you are a private tenant or an owner occupier you should contact the
Police or Homeless Welfare (see contact details below)
