Careline is Bolton at Homes' emergency social alarm service. It operates from a modern control centre using the latest equipment and works 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
You do not have to be an elderly person to have Careline installed, we provide support to all members of the community, people of all ages with disabilities or long term illness or people experiencing domestic violence.
There are two operators working in the control centre at all times and there is a full back up system located in a separate location should the control centre need to be evacuated for any reason.
In your home you have two sophisticated but easy to use pieces of equipment which can be used to summon help. One is a small portable alarm button which can be worn on your person in a variety of ways. The other is a Careline telephone which can be used just like a normal telephone but also contains an alarm button. For customers who wish to keep their own telephone Careline can supply a unit which fits under the telephone and is also activated via an alarm button.
A powerful microphone and transmitter in the telephone unit means that our Careline operators can still hear you and speak to you even if you are unable to get to the telephone. The range of the equipment can sometimes reach outside of your property to your garden. The range can be tested during a demonstration or at the installation stage.
If you are suffering from domestic violence, Careline can supply special silent equipment that alerts Careline and the Police but does not sound within the house.
For further information on the Careline equipment used, please contact a Careline Operator on 01204 335733.
If you need assistance, you press the alarm button on either your pendant or on the telephone. This puts you in contact with the Careline control centre. We currently answer 96% of calls in less than 30 seconds.
At the control centre experienced staff will quickly assess the situation and respond appropriately. They will call a doctor, friend or relative, send out our mobile staff or if the worst happens, one of the emergency services i.e. Police, Ambulance, and Fire Service.
For the residents of Bolton Metropolitan Borough, Careline provides an emergency Mobile response service which is deployed at the discretion of the Careline control centre staff if appropriate.
The mobile staff will carry out a range of tasks depending on your needs at that time. Once we have visited, we may discuss with you your need for additional services. All staff are fully trained and carry identification.
Careline has a role in assisting people who are being discharged from hospital. If you are about to leave hospital you can have Careline installed free of charge for four weeks.
Careline can offer assistance to carers. If you are caring for someone then you can have Careline installed free of charge for four weeks.
There is a weekly charge for Careline and in some circumstances you may get help with these charges through Supporting People Grant. If you are currently in receipt of Housing Benefit, you will automatically receive Supporting People Grant.
If you are not in receipt of Housing Benefit, you can apply for Supporting People Grant through a Fairer Charging Assessment. This will be dealt with by the Careline Officer when you have your Careline equipment installed.
In some circumstances you may also be exempt from VAT on the Careline charges. Advice and assistance on VAT exemption will be given by Careline staff when your equipment is installed.
